چکیده

We present results of ultra-deep ISOCAM observations through a cluster-lens at 7μm and 15μm with the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) satellite. These observations reveal a large number of luminous Mid-Infrared (MIR) sources. Crossidentification in the optical and Near-Infrared (NIR) wavebands shows that about half of the 7 μm sources are cluster galaxies. The other 7 μm and almost all 15 μm sources are identified as lensed distant galaxies. Thanks to the gravitational amplification they constitute the faintest sources detected in the MIR, allowing us to extend the number counts in both the 7 and 15 μm bands. In particular, we find that the 15 μm counts have a steep slope α15μm = −1.5 ± 0.3 and are large, with N15μm(> 30μJy) = 13 ± 5 arcmin−2. These numbers rule out non-evolutionary models and favour very strong evolution. Down to our counts limit, we found that the resolved 7 μm and 15 μm background radiation intensities are respectively (1.7±0.5)×10−9 and (3.3±1.3)×10−9 W m−2 sr−1.

A Deep and Ultra-deep Isocam Cosmological Survey through Gravitationally Lensing Clusters of Galaxies

We present imaging results and source counts from an ISOCAM deep and ultra-deep cosmological survey through gravitationally lensing clusters of galaxies at 7μm and 15μm. A total area of about 53 sq.arcmin was covered in maps of three clusters. The lensing increases the sensitivity of the survey. A large number of luminous mid-infrared (MIR) sources were detected behind the lenses, and most coul...

Ultimate Sensitivity with Isocam

We discuss the instrumental factors which constrain the sensitivity limits of the mid-infrared camera (ISOCAM) of ESA's Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The observing strategy judged to be best suited to faint-source detection is described. A data analysis technique adapted to the extraction of the faintest point-sources is discussed. We report the application of these techniques to an extreme...

An ISOCAM Mid-IR Survey through Gravitationally Lensing Galaxy Clusters

We present imaging results and source counts from a deep ISOCAM cosmological survey at 15μm, through gravitationally lensing galaxy clusters. We take advantage of the cluster gravitational amplification to increase the sensitivity of our survey. We detect a large number of luminous mid-IR sources behind the cluster lenses, down to very faint fluxes, which would have been unreachable without the...

Letter to editor: Recent advances in management of mycetoma in Iran

Mycetoma usually involves the skin, the subcutaneous tissues and deep structures such as the muscle and bone, but infection can also spread to more distant sites through the blood and lymph. If left untreated, the disease leads to deformity and loss of function, which may be fatal. The disease has a severe medical and socioeconomic impact on individuals, communities and health authorities. Elab...
